Legendary Strategy RPG gets Nintendo DS Remake! Completely remade to take advantage of Nintendo DS, Disgaea DS offers a deep strategy RPG experience with an exceptional story, a fantastic script, and a host of loveable characters and settings. An all-new story focus means a completely different experience for the player, not to mention a brand new ending. Geo Cubes add special effects to the battlefield, completely shifting the balance in the blink of an eye. Using local wireless multiplayer support, take your friends on in grand battles of strategy and wit – or try different modes like Defeat the Leader and Capture the Flag. This game is pretty witty and fun. The story is cheesy fun and there are lot of things to do. Warning though the game does get repetitive, As long as you limit yourself to about an hour a day though you wont burn out playing it and should have a wonderful time with this game.

This is a downgrade from the previous two versions I say the PSP one is the best by far I has the best graphics and voice acting but enough of that this review is for the Disgaea Afternoon of Darkness on the DS known as the Disgeae DS. Some new things added in this version first of all there is a Prinny Commentary which can be accessed as soon as you get an ending. Also there are some more special characters that can be enlisted like Plenair the mascot and some fun surprises. This game is still lots of fun I recommend it. So go build an army and rule the Nether World and a few other worlds too lol.

This game is, in essence, "Disgaea Hour of Dakrness" From the playstation 2 ported over to the Nintendo DS. While i always loved this game for its unique appeal and anti-hero cast, anyone who is looking to get the same experience as the original should be warned so they won't be dissapointed:

The graphics have been reduced from their original quality to something that the DS--with it's relatively low capabilities--can render. It can even skip a few frames of display (aka. lag) in heavily crowded Item World Maps.

Second, the game's music, which was incredibly brilliant in the original has not been directly ported, it's bitrate is now something like a hybrid between the venerable midi and a normal mp3. So it sounds dull by comparison.

Thankfully a few features have been added to the game to make it more interesting, like new secret characters, levels and Etna mode (where you play through Etna's campaign.)

Overall the experience is very close to the original, even though I miss the great music a quite a bit. If you keep the above in mind your play through should be a good one.

The game play is set up on a grid, with you issuing orders to your party members with a panel on the right-hand side. It's turn-based and linear, with multiple endings based on your choices and actions throughout the game. It's not a lot of variation, but enough to warrant a second or third look. Leveling is a bit of a grind, though. If you want a big party of well-leveled members, you're going to have to put some time into building each of them up.

Where this game shines is the story, dialogue, and characters. It's sad in some parts, serious in others, but mostly, it's very funny. I've replayed this game time and time again for the different endings and party configurations. I think this DS version lacks some of the voice overs the PS version had, but I'm still happy with it.

Disgaea is perhaps the best JRPG I've ever played. What I love is the number of classes available to you as well as a wealth of items which you can level up. The base story itself will easily take you at LEAST 30+ hours if you power through it and you'll only need to "power level" your characters once or twice for that.

But if you take the time to explore the item world, it will easily suck another 20-40 hours. And once you finish the game, (and performed the necessary in game check) the Etna Plus mode will open up which is significantly harder. Let's put it this way, finishing the base game once only requires a level 100+ character. But the ultimate boss which is totally optional and only in the etna plus mode is level 9000+. All the additional Assembly worlds that can be unlocked are all optional.

Again totally optional. I've logged 86 hours, and dragging the base game out and just unlocked the Angel class which is awesome but then there is also the Majin class which is still locked for me. (Check out [...])

Its the perfect game to play for several 1+ hour in order to level up or do the item world and get more powerful.

I really really want Disgaea 2 (Or any of the other Disgaea's) to be released on the DS.
