Amazon.com Review
Music fans love to take their iPods on the road, but the road offers one major problem--no charging outlets. Enter the Griffin PowerPod auto charger, which plugs into your car's cigarette lighter to provide a consistent power source. The charger powers the iPod whether it's playing music or in standby mode, so users don't have to suffer through any charging downtime. It's also intended to complement the iPod's sleek, modern design, with a dimpled white and grey body. The PowerPod comes with a 4-foot FireWire cable that connects to your iPod's dock connector for charging. Owners of the original 1G and 2G iPods can instead connect the default FireWire cables that came with their models.

Features and Performance
iPod owners will warm up to the PowerPod in a manner of seconds. It's ready to use right out of the box--just plug in the FireWire cable and start charging. A small red LED light indicates when the unit is working, as does the iPod's charging icon in the upper right corner. During testing, the PowerPod refreshed about an hour's worth of playtime in a few minutes while music was playing. Owners of other iPod auto accessories such as FM transmitters--which draw their power from the iPod's battery--will find the PowerPod particularly valuable, as it keeps their iPods juiced up over long road trips.

Simple and efficient, the PowerPod is a must for iPod-equipped road trippers. --Rivers Janssen

only for older gen ipods, feels like it will fall apart at any minute but must admit it did not.

Always handy to have if you are playing your i-pod in the car on a long journery or you just forgot the recharge at home!

Take this for what it's worth. Your mileage may vary.

I used this with my 4th Gen iPod in my car. When the first hard drive died, I thought "Okay, bad hard drive and I had left the iPod in the car on some freezing nights." When I replaced the hard drive and that died too, I thought "Okay, maybe bad iPod design." But when we used my wife's iPod Photo, which was quite reliable, in the car on a cross country trip and it began to show the same problem, I began to suspect the Griffin PowerPod and stopped using it with the iPod Photo, after which it seemed to run just fine.

This thing has poor instructions. Never could get it to work. Finally gave it away.

This WILL NOT WORK with an ipod video or a iphone or an ipod touch ( I tried it with all) I bought this to charge my iphone and it seemed like it had the correct attachment, however the other end is firewire which WILL NOT charge the iphone.....the iphone will say incompatible. I don't know why it matters but it does. Maybe if you have an old black and white ipod this will work
